Cartoon character creation in Adobe Illustrator for beginners
This February, Ken is going to be helping our local high school, Ysgol Calon Cymru (School at the heart of Wales) to get up to speed with Adobe Illustrator.
I have developed an affinity with Adobe Illustrator for a number of years, and when we heard that our local school were able to access Adobe Creative Cloud licences for all students, to say that we were a little excited is an understatement!
In this short trailer, Ken outlines what we will be covering as part of the illustration challenge.
Adobe Illustrator is an application that can be used to create characters for illustrations. After months of discussion and planning, we are finally at a point where we are ready to deliver our first PixelHaze challenge at the school. We are going to be working with Year 7 students, supporting them in their first steps towards creating their own cartoon characters in Illustrator.
We are going to be following this challenge by developing a character creation workshop for our online course platform, PixelHaze Academy Campus. The main aim of the illustration course will be to teach you how to use the basic tools available in the program. This will range from working with layers to switching between the shape, pen and pathfinder tools.
The tutorial also goes into how to select different parts of your artwork and work them into a complete illustration ready to export into Scratch, Adobe After Effects or other animation applications.
Adobe Illustrator is a powerhouse for creating a bank of digital assets. I use the platform In-house on a daily basis to create all of our artwork, ranging from children's books, brands, logos, and even animations. The great thing about Adobe Creative Cloud is that all their programs talk together, often with seamless switching between applications.

Vector graphics in Illustrator are easily imported into Adobe After Effects and many other applications.
