PayPal account setup SOS! Add your bank account to PayPal

If you have experienced difficulties completing your Paypal setup and authentication process (for Squarespace commerce), we have answered your SOS.

I thought it would be best to collate a number of guides directly from the Paypal support section to help you on your way. It is important to may. Alternatively, if you opt to connect Stripe to your Squarespace account instead, you will not need to follow the steps in this guide.

Why is it important to authorise your bank in Paypal

If you need to setup Paypal with Squarespace, it is crucial to carry out the steps below. If this process has not been effectively completed, you run the risk of having your PayPal account temporarily suspended, or purchases maybe automatically refunded to customers. These steps will help to prevent you from having to deal with these particular headaches.

To add your bank account in Paypal:

  1. Login to your Paypal account (ideally via a desktop pc or laptop, you can use your Paypal app)

  2. Go to Wallet.

  3. Click Add bank account.

  4. Select the account type, enter the sort code and account numbers.

  5. Review your information and click Add Bank Account.

To confirm your bank account:

  1. Go to Wallet.

  2. Select the bank account to confirm and click Confirm.

  3. Click Continue, then review and submit the Direct Debit details.

    1. (If the bank account is a business account or more than one person is required to authorise debits, you must print and sign a paper Bank Funding Instruction and post it to the address provided.)

Paypal will then deposit 1p in your current/business account and a 4-digit code will appear next to this entry on your statement.  Although this is likely to appear in your account within a couple of minutes, it may take up to 2 hours.

When you know the 4-digit code:

  1. Go to Wallet.

  2. Click Unconfirmed next to the bank account to confirm.

  3. Enter the 4-digit code and click Confirm.  (You can make 3 attempts.)

If the account is for a Limited company, or if your business requires additional account holders to to authorise payments, you will also need to print and sign a paper Bank Funding Instruction and post it to the address provided to you by PayPal.

Confirm your bank now.

That should get your account up and running so you can start to collect your hard-earned income with minimal fuss. If you would like additional support with this process, feel free to get in touch and we can book in a support block to get you started.
